About us

What is Judo?

” Judo is many things to different people. It is a fun sport, an art, a discipline, a recreational or social activity, a fitness program, a means of self-defense or combat, and a way of life. It is all of these and more…”

Modern Judo is an Olympic sport with it’s roots in ancient styles of Japanese Jiu Jitsu. It was founded in the 19th century by Jigoro Kano and will be familiar to many for it’s spectacular throwing techniques.

What can I expect?

Judo is a very vigourous sport and is an excellent form of excercise. Typical classes consist of a warm up, technical practice of particular techniques and free sparring or Randori. Randori is where you put what you’ve learned into practice, as you try to throw, hold down or submit a live opponent who is trying to do the same to you!

This is hard work and may sound daunting, but it takes place with a friendly attitude and no one is out to bully or hurt anyone else. Above all else, it is very exciting and I guarantee that the first time you throw someone with a good throw in Randori, you will feel great!

Children in Judo.

Children at Titan Judo are trained by Judo Scotland qualified and Disclosure Scotland checked coaches. The main aim is to have as many children as possible enjoying the sport of Judo in a safe and fun environment.

Will I need to compete?

Competition is an important part of the sport, so we do enter competitions for those who are interested, but never pressure those who are not. Please feel free to ask the coach any questions at any time.

Aside from competitions, should you wish to progress up the grades, you will, at some point, need to fight at gradings. These again are not compulsory, but give a great indication of your progress. They can be stressful but are great fun, honest!

How much will it cost?

Seniors simply pay on a class by class basis. Senior classes are £4.

For children, we have a monthly pass scheme. The single class pass books your child’s place in one class per week. The multi class pass gives entry to ALL classes for your child’s age group.

Passes must be paid for on your child’s first Judo class of each calendar month.

Costs for the monthly passes are detailed below.

Single Class Pass Multi Class Pass
1 child £15 per month £25 per month
2 children
(siblings)
£25 per month £40 per month
3 children
(siblings)
£30 per month £50 per month

Everyone wishing to practice Judo in Scotland must pay an annual Judo Scotland membership fee.

Titan club gradings are held throughout the year for children and cost £10 for 7 years & under and £15 for 8 & over. This cost includes the grading exam, a certificate and a belt.

Within the first two weeks of attending our club, you will have the opportunity to join Titan Judo. The cost for joining is £35.
For this one off fee you receive a good quality Judo suit, a Titan T shirt and an embroidered Titan badge.

We also have a small range of Titan merchandise for sale, which includes fleeces, hats etc. Please ask the coach for further details.

There is a small cash outlay to start with when commencing any Judo class, but after this there is generally only the ongoing monthly fee. We have tried to identify every cost to you and explain as much as possible but if you are still unsure, then please ask the coach or email Paul for further details.
